Mercedes EWA Electronic Workshop Parts/Information System

Bericht door listerdiesel »

I've been battling with installation of this system for a while, but finally got the EPC section running tonight after a few false starts.

It takes getting on for 20gb just for the parts databases, so not a small thing.

Coverage includes all cars, truck, Mogs and G-Wagen. Vehicles identified by VIN number, interesting to see my own 614D come up with the engine number identified as well.

Going to get the WIS Workshop Information System running next.

Any parts queries, drop me an email.

20 GB.... That's quite a database! Good for you you've got it running!

And a nice offer to our visitors! Thanks.

The WIS (Workshop Information System) is now running as well, so we have access to the documents such as wiring diagrams and repair instructions.

It is a very nice and comprehensive system but fussy about its installation and not user-friendly at all!

Both EPC and WIS work on VIN numbers to locate a particular vehicle, but you can also look up by vehicle type.

Trucks, cars, buses, vans, transporters etc are all covered.

If anyone else wants to buy the DVD's on ebay and install it themselves, drop me an email first and I'll talk them through the installation. The instructions given with the DVD's is not really sufficient.

It won't run on anything later than Windows XP, but will run on older versions back to Windows ME.

I installed Windows 8.1 yesterday on another machine and the Mercedes software wouldn't install. Checked the config files and Windows 2000 is the latest on there, although it does work fine in Windows XP.

It's designed long ago for vehicles which were new then... You don't expect it to run on a brand new operating system, do you?

My database is up to 2013/14, but I suppose it all went on the web after that, same as Land Rover did with their dealer documentation.

It must have cost a fortune to send out monthly updates on CD's for the parts and workshop stuff.

Now you know why MB service isn't the cheapest:-)
Plus the nice white tiles in the workshop...

I've had four lots of spares from MB sealers, I wouldn't say that anything was particularly outrageous on price, and most available in 24hours.

Yesterday's lot came to £180, and included hub seals for both axles (4 items) water pump gaskets and O rings (4 items) gearlever knob (the one in the bus is from a truck) power steering rubber hoses (we had the steel pipes last week) and so on.

Once I have got it all up to scratch I don't expect regular maintenance to be that expensive.

The hub seals and water pump gaskets are spares to carry with us, I have a new waterpump as a spare already, but you can buy the pump with or without gaskets, mine didn't have them.

New cab headlining £376 plus tax of 20%, but they can supply it in 6 weeks from order. Still thinking about that one!

The availability of spare parts is great. Even after 50 years! IMHO that is worth a (slightly) higher price,
I was referring to the hourly rate.

I do all my own work, we have three Land Rovers in the family and we built the 6-wheel drawbar trailer from scratch in 2011.

I don't see us needing to use a dealer workshop, unless special tools are needed, but these days it's cheaper to buy something like an axle on ebay rather than get a major repair done by a main dealer.

Good for you! And for many more visitors of this forum. Actually, omitting official dealers' workshops is the raison d'être of Campertechniek
